Why is dancing so hard?

We started dancing today in aerobics class. Our teacher will just show us the moves really quickly and then put on the music, and somehow everyone gets it but me (I’ve watched everyone else). I’m a senior, and all the little sophomores (including the little sis of the guy I really like) and juniors in there are dancing like pros, and I’m either dancing like I have a disability or standing there looking clueless while I try to figure out what on Earth is going on. I’m too embarrassed to ask for individual help (that would just call attention to my ineptitude in front of the entire class), and I know she’s going to put me in the front row when she sees that I’m not doing well. There is nothing physically wrong with me, as in I am not fat and I don’t have a disability. What is wrong with me and what should I do?

Dance is a hard thing to learn, end of story. Chances are that they’ve had some dance experience before, or are naturally good. It’s not an easy thing to pick up, and it will take time. Practice what you learned in class at home and don’t give up! You’ll get it eventually. For all you know, you’re probably trying too hard, which can seriously impare your ability to pick up a dance routine. Just don’t think, and do whatever you think is right and no one will notice. Most people are busy doing their own thing anyway and don’t watch other people, so don’t concern yourself with what they think of you.
And honestly, just because someones a few years younger and gets something doesn’t make you any less of a person or anything. And about that guy’s sister…I seriously doubt she’s going to tell him that you had a hard time dancing in aerobics. That really isn’t a daily conversation topic, and chances are she didn’t even notice, so I wouldn’t worry about him! Also, you notice your mistakes a lot more than you’re actually making them because everyone’s concerned with getting it right when they’re dancing. I do it all the time, and then I’ll see the playback on the camera if someone was recording it, and then I’ll be like…oh okay. I’m sure you’re not as bad as you think!

Your simply just not a visual learner. It gradually gets harder depending on how much training you’ve had, when I started dancing we would run through a dance countless times before trying it individually or without guidance. However now we’re more advanced we are expected to learn a full four minute dance in twenty minutes or less. Clearly some of these people have had similar experiences before and have adapted to this learning style. Try attending similar classes where’s there’s choreography such as kick boxing, you’ll find you gradually improve.

Actually- it Isn’t. You’re either too self-conscious, or you’re trying too hard !! Find someone you Trust who knows how to dance alittle- & then have them teach you a few easy "Moves" or "Steps…" All you need to Do- is RELAX, follow the beat of the Music, & "go with the flow" of the Moment (without THINKING about it…). You’ll quickly discover- that this isn’t "Rocket Science" we’re talking about here… -But something that’s actually pretty easy & enjoyable- once you get the hang of it ! So give it a "shot" – & maybe we’ll see you on "Dancing With The Stars"- in a few years !!! -Stranger things have happened ! :)

obviously, these others are some weirders from outer space. that sounds impossible to learn! you are the only normal one! stay away from them! haha, except the little sis of the guy you like. no, seriously, dancing can be hard, but i have no ideas what advice to give you because i suck at dancing, so i’m just bein funny. it’s all right, just try to do the things that ur good at, and maybe ask the teacher to go slow at. if you can’t do it, just do whatever u want and try to look funny. people will start laughing, and then you can be like, "Dancing, is just NOT for me, sorry!" if u keep up the funny stuff, and hard work, you can do great, just feeling confident.

It really is just practise like anything else. You hear the rhythm and that tells you how fast you move. Agree with your other answer above that you can relax and just practise the steps.
If you want more practise, try learning a dance like the Hoedown Throwdown from the new Hannah Montana movie. If you watch it in the movie, it goes by really fast and looks hard, but if you learn it slowly step by step, then speeding it up is the easier part.
2 girls on youtube do a really good job of breaking down this dance into simple steps, you should try it and you will be doing the Hoedown Throwdown in no time, that will build your confidence to tackle the other dances in your class, you can then challenge anyone to do the Hoedown Throwdown, and if you know the moves, you will look like a pro!
That video is at: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cfr_CvGLzaw as I just learned it!
