Navy problem, any advice would be helpful…?

I recently enlisted in the navy while in my senior year of high school. I was destined to be a hospital corpsman, and my ship out date was June 15, 2009. Upon shipping out i noticed i didn’t have my social security card, i had lost it a few years back and never applied for a new me. So i was unable to ship on my designated day and was kicked out of the delayed entry program. My mom even contacted my recruiter a week before i was suppose to ship out, and asked him to review my records to see if every thing was finalized and that i was ready to go. Further more, in result to what happened i still wanted to enlist, but now my ASVAB score a 49 was to low, since they upped the standards. But i got a waiver for, although there were no open jobs for me. Soo my recruiter recommended that i could take up SAR( search and rescue swimming) and see if i could pass the physical fitness test required for the job. Now up to date, i have been to a couple training sessions and have took the test about 4 times now and still haven’t passed. I really don’t want the job to much and i just think its not for me. But i really want to get into the Navy as soon as possible, i have been waiting almost a year. Soo should i retake my ASVSB and hopefully get a better job, but not ship for quite awhile, or continue with my SAR training, or just forget it all and pick a different branch of service. ( any opinions, advice, comments would help) thanks;.

Retake the ASVAB. Four years in the military can be pretty miserable if you’re not doing the job you want to do.

I’d say you need to just go with another branch. My son chose Air Force. There are good jobs in EACH Branch….don’t let them give you the runaround. Just make sure you have the papers this time.

    Good Luck

I fail to see why if the ssn card was the only thing holding you back, your recruiter did not take you to the ssn office and get the piece of paper that states that this is your number and the new card will be sent within the week, something your mother could have posted to you as soon as she got it.

At least this is what my sons recruiter offered to do, but I in fact took him and got the paper, took us about 15Min’s in line and as they had already seen and copied the one that I misplaced it was good to go.

You should retake the asvab. But before you do, you should study and take practice asvabs. While you are studying do some other things such as taking a class at a community college. Take a math class as that would be very helpful to increase your asvab score. You could try other branches but you will probably be limited to the Army with your current score. In any case, take your time, do your research and study. Taking things step by step will work for you. Good luck.
