I extremely want to participate in the Army ROTC program in a university when I get there, but have a few questions involved. Hopefully someone who has gone through it can answer it, or anyone who is knowledgeable in the subject.
I am a senior, and have finished applying to all my colleges.
1. I applied for the 4-year rotc scholarship, but it said something about a physical fitness card. Do I need to print this and give it to my counselor or something?
2. If I don’t make the scholarship, I can take ROTC as an elective during college, this I know. However, if I do it all 4 years, do they end up paying for my college anyway? (I know you don’t get the 300-500 dollars a month though).
3. If the above is yes, how? If the first 2 years are not fully contracted, my family would have to pay for 2 years. Does the army ignore these 2 years and finish up the rest? Or do they give you money back?
Thanks, that’s all for now!
1. When you apply at the ROTC for the scholarship they will have all the paperwork for you to complete, including the PT Card. (They will administer the test) If you are accepted they will also give you a free physical and the paperwork for that too.
2. NO…..The military does not pay anything if your scholarship is denied…. now or later
3. N/A
I taught ROTC at two major Universities (USC & UPR-RP)…. be glad to help anyway I can

1. You need someone to grade you. A local recruiter should be able to assist. You can contact the PMS at the university for specific questions, if you haven’t already made contact.
2. You can’t take 3rd/4th year without contracting.
3. We ignore, though if you pay for the whole thing, you can apply for the Student Loan Repayment Program.

Answer to question 3: They pay for the current academic years that you are contracted for. They won’t reimburse you for previous years that you attended ROTC courses (MLS) as a non-contract cadet.
