Im considering to undertake another martial art.. which one should i choose?hi there,
im a senior karate-ka in shukokai karate, and i am not quitting it; its great.. but now i am considering another martial art.. i am a female, 29 just under six feet.. i have far more strength than cardio (although my cardio fitness is really good), i am not skinny.. more solid if anything and weight train with some cardio too outside karate..
Do you reacon i should do a grappling martial art?? utilising more strength?? i mean i dont see myself prancing and running around predominetly..
any suggestions would be good..
whats your definition of senior karate-ka. ive been studying karate for over 30 years and i don’t consider my self a senior. usually that’s reserved for over 7 degree.
you should study an art that you are week in
if your grappling is weak then you should study a grappling art, judo, aikido or a jujitsu. forget the way you were taught to fall. most karate dojo’s teach little or the wrong way to fall if the go over it at all.
if you need to be more soft then you should study tai chi
if you want to improve your kicking then Muay tai, or kick boxing.
always work on your weaker aspects to improve your arsenal of weapons. as you improve your weakness the stronger aspects of your ability’s will also improve. as well as making you a more rounded fighter.
i have studied shotokan for over 30 years, i have taken a little from many styles. jujitsu, goju, shito ryu, tai chi, etc. but i have always gone back to shotokan. this is not the case for every body you may discover a style you feel more comfortable in. and then a again you may not.
but at your age you are not a senior when you get you shodan, nidan or sandan this is only the being of the learning process.and you still have a lot more to learn.
it can take a life time to master one style.
you don’t mention how long you were studying.
edit:> as usually sensei scandal makes a very good point about the hidden techniques in kata. which is one of the reasons i keep going back to shotokan. every time i studied a different style i found those same techniques in the shotokan karate’s. this is why i tell every one it takes a life time to learn one style.
We started dancing today in aerobics class. Our teacher will just show us the moves really quickly and then put on the music, and somehow everyone gets it but me (I’ve watched everyone else). I’m a senior, and all the little sophomores (including the little sis of the guy I really like) and juniors in there are dancing like pros, and I’m either dancing like I have a disability or standing there looking clueless while I try to figure out what on Earth is going on. I’m too embarrassed to ask for individual help (that would just call attention to my ineptitude in front of the entire class), and I know she’s going to put me in the front row when she sees that I’m not doing well. There is nothing physically wrong with me, as in I am not fat and I don’t have a disability. What is wrong with me and what should I do?
Dance is a hard thing to learn, end of story. Chances are that they’ve had some dance experience before, or are naturally good. It’s not an easy thing to pick up, and it will take time. Practice what you learned in class at home and don’t give up! You’ll get it eventually. For all you know, you’re probably trying too hard, which can seriously impare your ability to pick up a dance routine. Just don’t think, and do whatever you think is right and no one will notice. Most people are busy doing their own thing anyway and don’t watch other people, so don’t concern yourself with what they think of you.
And honestly, just because someones a few years younger and gets something doesn’t make you any less of a person or anything. And about that guy’s sister…I seriously doubt she’s going to tell him that you had a hard time dancing in aerobics. That really isn’t a daily conversation topic, and chances are she didn’t even notice, so I wouldn’t worry about him! Also, you notice your mistakes a lot more than you’re actually making them because everyone’s concerned with getting it right when they’re dancing. I do it all the time, and then I’ll see the playback on the camera if someone was recording it, and then I’ll be like…oh okay. I’m sure you’re not as bad as you think!

We are 1st time cruisers. We are taking Holland America’s Alaska cruise from Seattle in mid-Sept. 2006 aboard its "Zaandam" ship. We are taking 2 senior citizen couples with us. Will they have things to do? What do the staterooms look like? We have 3 Oceanview rooms. What can you tell me about food options – we are all vegetarians? What is included in the price we paid? Are spa services and fitness center use included or is there separate charges? What should we take with us for clothing? Will I have motion sickness? How to prevent/treat that? Any advice/info you can give me will be really helpful.
WE went on a cruise to ALaska a few years ago. We went on Princess Cruise Line but all cruise lines tend to have the same things. WEe have been on about 12 cruises on Princess, Royal Caribbean, Celebrity and Norwegian.
They are one of THE best vacations you can take. Once you are on ship the staff caters to you, its whatever you want. There is something to do all day every day. Some ships have free morning exercise programs, stretching and walking or you can pay for other things like Spinning in the gym. All cruise ships have gyms so you can go workout usually any time from about 6:00 AM to late at night. There is usually a walking/running track on one of the decks also. Some ships leave the gym open all night. They call the gyms Spa because they do promote getting pampering stuff like wraps and massages with aromatherapy. They will also generally have a beauty salon to do hair and nails..
Ships have movie theaters, small but nice, and you can also see movies in your room. There are demonstrations on ship like ice carving, napkin folding and towel folding, cooking demonstrations. So offer tours of the galley (kitchen) and/or the bridge.
Each day you will receive a "newsletter" listing the time, place and particulars of each event. You can schedule land tours and activities also during the day and evening when the ship is in port. There are generally shows every evening, one show for those with an early dinner seating and another (same show) for those who eat late. There is always food available. Usually there is a place in ship where you can go get something. Or, you can always just pick up the phone in your cabin and order from the room serviice menu (food is free). If you want, you can order breakfast room service.
There are places on ships to play board games, a library, a place to get online (I don’t recommend this because its super expensive … wait until you get in port and look for a an internet cafe) and cocktail lounges that feature a variety of music. There is usually a disco that starts after 10:00 PM each night. There is music for all ages.
Then there is always the pools. Some ships have more than one and the newer ships generally have an indoor pool as well as outdoor ones and all of these have hot hots.
I suggest that you go to the web site for the cruise line you are going on and look at the features for the ship you will be on. I hope you have picked a balcony cabin, or a suite, they are more relaxing and fun.
If you want a special diet just tell them in advance, or each day at dinner you can order the vegetables that you want that are available; they will gladly do that.
The price you paid includes the cruise only which means your cabins and all of the food (except in specialty restaurants). All meals are included as well as the shows and entertainment on ship. Name brand soft drinks, like Coke or Pepsi, cost, but youy can have all of the coffee, tea, juice, milk, punch you want.
The hidden costs on a cruise are your tab for drinks (alcoholic and sodas),tours, and gratuity. Many ships now add the recommended gratuity to your onboard tab. The gratuity is about $10 to $12 a day per person. You can give more if you want. Tours can add hundreds to your final bill, depending upon how many stop the ship makes and what you want to do. Study the tours carefully; some places you may want to just go on your own.
The Alsaka crusie will be mostly in the Inside Passage which measn that the seas will not be high or rough. You are not likely to get sea sick because ships built these days have stabilizers toi keep them from rocking very much. If you do get sick, there is a doctor’s office on board and usually you can get sea sick meds at the pursers desk. If you think you will be sea sick from past experience, you can get pills from your Dr or get a wrist bracelet which is said to work great. They are sold in Boating stores.
I hope this is enough; you and all will enjoy.
Fitness and nutrition have been hobbies of mine for years, and i’ve helped many of my friends in these areas during this time. And i gotta say i’ve enjoyed helping them almost as much as going to the gym myself, and some friends even say i’ve been an inspiration to them. So, i feel like i’d love being a personal trainer. In fact i KNOW i’d be good at this job, i’ve practically been doing it for years.
I’m currently a senior in college with an irrelevant degree that may not lead to a job, and i don’t know what to do with the degree anyway. So i feel like being a trainer would allow me to do something i love while making some money before i graduate and quite possibly even after that if i don’t end up going into a "professional" career.
So, my question is, what certification is REALLY accepted in legit gyms? How soon will i be able to make up for the money spent on the certification? Will i be able to work while taking classes?
Special Education is for students with DISABILITIES. You have miscatergorized your question. Y!A suggests a category but you need to verify it is the correct category and change it if need be. This will ensure you will get more useful responses.

The provision of education to people with disabilities or learning differences differs across countries and (in the US, Canada, Germany, and other federally organized countries) across states
http://www.indiaedu.com/education-india/special-education-in-india.html
Special education in India was present since the pre independence time, with very few schools or NGOs helping intellectually impaired children. Today India has come a long way and made a good progress in the field of disability rehabilitation. Presently India has four national institutes for effective implementation of this special education through various government schemes.

being fit is a good qualification on any field military division. US Air Force requires a fit and healthy applicants for its rigid days of training. Medical certificate is also required, if you fail your med cert consultation, then you are not fitted to be an applicant.
