Cant understand what to do?

Cant understand what to do?

I am 27 running.I am a Software Quality Assurance engineer with 4 years of experience. From the beginning of my career I wanted to
do programming. But due to my closed nature and less knowledge of what works and what does not work in the world, I didn’t
learn any new language like Java during start of my career which could have given me a quick job. The market conditions and my personal condition (need for money)
made me take up job as QA Engineer working with PERL as language. I have worked with PERL for 3.5 years uptill now.
I have failed to realize what was needed for me and just worked like a DOG on office work ignoring personal things
like exercise, phiscque, enjoymment, dating girls.

I left my hometown 2 years ago and came to this metro for job as QA Engineer for an MNC. Here I proved myself and got switched
from QA to Development to work in C++. But due to my improper upbringing & my mental condition (I struck to my principles
to stand against this immoral manager & proved myself. I should have not have not involved so much and should have
fought for my righ to switch. But this is the way I am not able to deal with politics or say I am not intelligent enough/avoided to do diplomacy),

It took me 2 years for this switch when it should have taken 1.5 years. And in this period I worked devotely and didnt get
time to study DEVELOPMENT which i always wanted to do. During the switch I gave up my promotion to Senior QA Engineer
& hike of about rs 1lakh.

In this 2 years, I have lost my good physique (I am VEG & leave alone & eat outside), started loosing my hair (due to water & conditions here) and have no friends in this city. On top
of that after switching to DEVELOPMENT, unfortunately my anxiety & other conditions made me do a quick switch where there
is NO work or very very little work.

I miss my hometown badly, if I go to my hometown I will be able to enjoy good food, save further fall of my hair,
have good company of friend, date girls. But the problem is that I will have to go back as QA Engineer.
Life as a QA Engineer will leave me with the future scope of being a TEAM LEAD or MANAGER after few years. But I am
poor in dealing with people although I am technically very strong. I have a very good belief and strong confidence that
I am capable to much more than that.

If I stay in this metro, I will be able to learn DEVELOPMENT in C++ (only when work is assgined to me) or I will have to
do JAVA on my own and apply for QA positions where strong technical background is required (Eg Google). This is may
take at least 6 months more. I have prepared but there was gap of 3 months in this due to my failure to deal with the
girl I liked. I have screwed up very badly on that front since I always avoided people trying to be austere and focusing
on work and studies. I didnt understand the importance of diplomacy I treated it as against my principles which I
didn’t leave at any cost.
If I decide to be hardcore developer it will take atleast 1 years of good work. After that my experience will be
5.5 years (4.5 as QA ENGINEER & 1 as DEVELOPER) but the availability of work depends on the company (it will not take more than 2-3 months to get work).
Also I think it will be difficult for me to stay in this metro, due to worry about me losing hair and not being able
to socialize and date girls of my mother tongue.

Anyway, in any case to go ahead in career I have to learn languages.
See what I have done to myself. After sacrificing 2 years I am went with LOT of studies & struggle to do again
sacrificing my personal enjoyments.

I can end up in my hometown as QA Engineer, earn good salary & enjoy. But this will deprive me of this chance to get
into GOOGLE as QA Engineer or be a DEVELOPER.

I feel desperate that I need to network with people and have as much as interaction with them . I have realized this after I have screwed up to do even friendship with the GIRL who I searched for 2 years. Only now I understand the importance of socializing.
What do I do?

I feel you are fully aware of your problem and its solution but you are not able to make the choice. I will also say follow your heart. Money, Career are not the only things in life. Do you know top 10 worlds richest people? I am sure the answer is NO so why do you bother about achieving / earning more when you won’t be recognized.. on the flip side can you name 10 persons who can count on you when in need? I am pretty sure that you will atleast have some count here. So you see you need to define your boundaries strike balance within these boundaries.

Follow your heart and Wish you luck!!!!

Cheers.. Nilesh

Are there any senior citizens particpating in the Senior Olympics?

Posted by admin on August 31st, 2009 and filed under Senior Fitness | 7 Comments »

I am "Tilly the Turtle," meaning I am the slowest of the slow swimmers, and I am enjoying the preparation. Just wondering what sports others are trying to perfect, and for swimmers, any tips?

The Senior Olympics is for people over 50 years old. The aim is fun, fitness, and friendship! Fortunately, they haven’t asked me NOT to participate. The oldest lady at the Olympics in 2007, for my state, was 93 years young!!!
Crystal Star, Thanks for your encouraging words. BTW, my name translated, is Irish for "girl" lol
RC-heat, You are correct, the media still isn’t interested in filming this sport extravaganza, thank God!

I love how your name matches your passion for the water. You go girl! May I call you "girl"?
Best wishes and as Dory would say,(From "Finding Nemo") "just keep swiming!"
Blessings Light & Love

Posted by admin on August 31st, 2009 and filed under senior aerobics | 6 Comments »

OK here’s my problem

I have a senior project to do in school and i want to to an activity that help tome my body and increase upper body strength.

it has to take 20-40 hours and has to be like boxing, running, karate, or something where i can have some one help me. a mentor IS required

so what activity will work from me? where can i go to learn it?

P.S. it have to help with stress too. like aerobic walking

Hiking-
You get to wear a backpack-upper body strength.
Hike over all sorts of terrain-leg,back,arm strength.
No time limits unless you set them.
Call a local hiking club near you & ask someone to mentor you.
Or ask around & get a mentor that way.
At 62, I can tell you, it is a great strength builder & can be done alone or with friends. Not to mention the sights you get to see & the wonderful folks you meet.
This is NOT a team sport-you challange yourself every step of the way.
Special note: No idea where you live, but if you really get into this sport, put The Appalachian Trail on your list.

Navy problem, any advice would be helpful…?

Posted by admin on August 29th, 2009 and filed under A Fitness Program for Seniors | 5 Comments »

I recently enlisted in the navy while in my senior year of high school. I was destined to be a hospital corpsman, and my ship out date was June 15, 2009. Upon shipping out i noticed i didn’t have my social security card, i had lost it a few years back and never applied for a new me. So i was unable to ship on my designated day and was kicked out of the delayed entry program. My mom even contacted my recruiter a week before i was suppose to ship out, and asked him to review my records to see if every thing was finalized and that i was ready to go. Further more, in result to what happened i still wanted to enlist, but now my ASVAB score a 49 was to low, since they upped the standards. But i got a waiver for, although there were no open jobs for me. Soo my recruiter recommended that i could take up SAR( search and rescue swimming) and see if i could pass the physical fitness test required for the job. Now up to date, i have been to a couple training sessions and have took the test about 4 times now and still haven’t passed. I really don’t want the job to much and i just think its not for me. But i really want to get into the Navy as soon as possible, i have been waiting almost a year. Soo should i retake my ASVSB and hopefully get a better job, but not ship for quite awhile, or continue with my SAR training, or just forget it all and pick a different branch of service. ( any opinions, advice, comments would help) thanks;.

Retake the ASVAB. Four years in the military can be pretty miserable if you’re not doing the job you want to do.

What could be implemented into society (social programs etc.) which would boost mental health and well-being?

Think about it. Why aren’t there centers that deal with specific issues?

Women should have women centers where you can go and join clubs of people in the same boat as you.

Pregnancy, motherhood, childhood problems, stay at home clubs, caring for aging parents, pre-menopausal/post-menopausal, seniors clubs etc. etc. etc.

But not just centers, more like clubs that deal with the whole social/emotional gammut, including the ability to exercise, educate yourself, talk to others like you etc. etc. etc.

Dont you think it would be a much healthier world if there were centers which addressed these issues, maybe community centers with once a week time slots for different folks?

Of course same would be true for teens and kids but there’s already stuff but just not enough.

I think as we age with the baby boomers there are going to be so many issues to deal with that society just hasn’t prepared itself for, certainly government and the health sector has not.

But these would ease burdens and create better prepared and educated individuals. I’d be happy to pay a fee to attend such a place if there was one!
Well it’s different up here in Canada. A lot of these things DO exist and one way or another the taxpayer DOES pay for it….whether it’s in nursing homes, long term care facilities, hospitals or institutions etc. etc.

This is actually preventative maintenance and these social programs would cost much LESS than the current ones.

But government runs all kinds of services, pools for example, community centers, which private people DO utilize and run courses and programs, and has user fees (if government) or you pay for the course/program and just rent the facility…I’d be happy to pay for that kind of service!

You are right you could run it indeed if you had the qualifications to.

Yes your idea is great.

Step back for a minute and think about how much it would cost to staff such a place, to clean, to pay rent, etc = funding. And where is that funding going to come from in an already ‘stretched to maximum’ economy? Membership fees?

You state this: "I think as we age with the baby boomers there are going to be so many issues to deal with that society just hasn’t prepared itself for". You believe this?

At any rate, write down one agency you would like to see occur and open it. You state: "I’d be happy to pay a fee to attend such a place if there was one!" So why wait for it to become available, when you can open one yourself?
